Those affected by leprosy are often too disabled to work and provide for their children. This project will raise funds for a year of secondary education for 20 children living in families affected by leprosy, to improve their long term chances of employment and achieving financial independence.

    Situation

The problem is one of poor educational achievement in children living in families affected by leprosy in the village of Kindwitwi, Tanzania. People affected by leprosy are often too disabled too work and rely on their children to care for them. The children do not have the opportunity to further their education and have no means of independently bringing money in for their family.

    Solution

By giving the children the opportunity to attend secondary school, the Rufiji Leprosy Trust hopes this will increase the employment opportunities for these children and in the long term help create economic stability for their family.
