The means exist to power the UK through renewable energy. However, the shift from dirty fossil fuels is not happening fast enough to tackle the threat of climate change. UK national policy on renewable energy is weak and threatened by the vested interests of fossil fuel generators – notably the Big Six. There is broad public support for renewable energy (over 80% of the public back solar power), but this is not translated into political pressure.
