60% of children in these villages in rural Goa do not finish their education, with 35% dropping out before age 12. The reasons are poverty, lack of interest in educating children, and caste prejudice. We are working to address these causes and ensure these children enrol and stay in school.

    Situation

    60% of the children in these villages do not complete their education. These children are from oppressed caste and tribal backgrounds. Though education is the only way to transcend the cycle of grinding poverty which their families are trapped in, many factors prevent them from completing their schooling. These include terrible prejudice and discrimination, as well as unsupportive home environments, and parents who do not value education. The situation is particularly dire for the girls.
