    Situation

    Both Batticaloa and Trincolamee districts have been badly affected by the civil war which killed approximately 70,000 people. The conflict also created many thousands of amputees as well as a group disabled people with mental health issues caused by trauma and dislocation. With limited livelihood choices, their absence from mainstream productive employment locks them in a vicious cycle of poverty.

    Solution

    By changing the perception and attitudes of communities to people with disabilities through awareness raising programmes and workshops and motivating them to become productive by developing their skills for employment by the provision of short term market
