A free and confidential Helpline for any adult concerned about the mental health or emotional wellbeing of a child or young person. Advisers answered 10,000 calls - a 30% annual increase. Calls concerned very serious issues such as depression, eating disorders or self-harm.

    Situation

    On average 3 children in every classroom (around 850,000) suffer from a diagnosable mental health disorder. Sadly, this is a number which has doubled since the mid 1980's. The stigma associated with mental health problems, particularly when concerned with children and young people means that many suffer in fear, isolation and shame unable to get the help that they need. Their families suffer alongside them, also frightened and unsure how to help. Problems escalate and crisis can occur.
