    Situation

The number of patients being referred for CT scans (currently 22,000 per year) is steadily increasing by 8-10% per year. The existing scanner is slow and not capable of performing detailed and complex examinations. Long scanning times mean that it is unsuitable for patients in discomfort or having difficulty breathing. The growing demand for complex scans to diagnose heart disease, potential stroke, cancers, circulatory conditions and traumatic injury cannot be met.

    Solution

Provision of a new specialist scanner would: Improve services to 12,000 patients each year Revolutionise the way heart disease and potential strokes are diagnosed. Conditions are identified more quickly leading to more rapid treatment and recovery Incr
