For the many patients and families we care for, being part of one last family Christmas is their most cherished wish. Over the festive period, Marie Curie Nurses will be providing care and support to hundreds of families enabling them to spend one more special Christmas together, in their own homes.

    Situation

    Research shows that 65% of people would choose to die at home, but in reality most people will die in hospital where they least want to be. Marie Curie believes everybody should be able to die in the place of their choice, close to family and friends, surrounded by the things that they love. Being able to be at home in the final stages of life is hugely important to those with a terminal illness, never more so than at Christmas when being part of festive family traditions can be so comforting.

    Solution

    Whilst being a joyous time of year, Christmas is also heartbreaking, exhausting and stressful when there is a terminally ill loved one to look after. Marie Curie Nurses will spend their Christmas with a patient and their family providing all the practical
