Rains have failed for successive seasons, and families across Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya are struggling to find anything to eat or drink. Hundreds of thousands of livestock have already died. Food prices have rocketed. Reports from refugee camps indicate that as many as 45 per cent of inhabitants are suffering from acute malnutritrion, exceeding all emergency thresholds, and death rates are at emergency levels.
