In Thailand, many families living in poverty are forced to make the heart-wrenching decision to place their children into orphanages. The Keeping Families Together programme helps families on the brink of separation to stay together by giving them vital support to over come the challenges they face.

    Situation

Over 80% of children living in orphanages across Thailand have families, poverty and lack of social services force many parents to place their children into care. Many are forced to make this heart-breaking decision because of a lack of social support. Our Keeping Families Together programme supports vulnerable families on the brink of separation. The project steps in to prevent the unnecessary institutionalisation of children and helps to keep them at home with their parents, where they belong

    Solution

As part of our wider strategy to affect lasting change in childcare, we are working on projects that focus on family strengthening and community empowerment. The Keeping Families Together programme offers tailored training and support to disadvantaged families so that they can provide the best care possible for their children. Without this vital service, families living in poverty, or those from marginalised communities, often feel that their only option is to place their children in orphanages.
