Disabled children and young people across the UK are in need of specialist mobility equipment that enables independence, reduces pain, and increases confidence and self-esteem. AFK's mission is to provide the right equipment to as many young people as possible, to access the world we live in.

Situation
Statistics show that there are currently 360k children and young people aged 0-24 who have disabilities that affect their mobility in the UK. Most of these children and young people will need mobility equipment at some point in their lives, a need the NHS is not currently able to meet based on demand and the need for highly specialised equipment. This equipment provides several benefits including greater independence, reduced pain, and increased confidence and self-esteem.
Solution
AFK provides funding for mobility equipment to disabled children, young people and families who cannot receive the equipment from the NHS and are not in a financial position to fund it themselves. We also fund the cost of maintenance and repairs on all the powerchairs we fund, ensuring children and young people always have a functioning chair that is meeting their needs. This enables these children and young people to get out and live the life they choose, to be as independent as possible.
