To expand existing PEAS secondary schools which provide a high quality, sustainable education for over 8000 children who would not otherwise go to school. We would like to add facilities and classrooms in several schools to help achieve our target for 2014 of educating 13,000 children.

    Situation

Just one in four children enrol in secondary education in Uganda due to a lack of affordable places. Those schools that exist are often poor quality with large class sizes and high teacher absenteeism. The lack of secondary schools is also negatively affecting primary completion rates. As a Ugandan earns on average 28% more when they have completed secondary education, the lack of secondary schools is damaging both the life prospects of individuals and the future of an entire country.

    Solution

PEAS will expand its existing schools, which will experience high demand for places at the beginning of the next academic year in February 2014. We will build extra classrooms and facilities and the schools will continue to run entirely from local revenue
