Sammy was 16 when she was made homeless on Christmas Day. This winter, together, with our volunteer hosts and your help, we will ensure 100 young people, just like Sammy, have a safe and secure home, festive activities and a hot Christmas meal throughout North & East Yorkshire.

The difference that SASH has made has been unimaginably good. It was a very supporting environment and has given me the space the time and the support to try and figure out who I was, who I am now. The structure to understand how I am going to move on into adulthood.
When we first heard about SASH, all our children were at home and our house was full. But they’re at university stage now, and we’ve got a spare room so becoming a host seemed the obvious thing. We think it’s also good way of being thankful for what you do have and sharing it a bit
I’ve been the recipient of being taken into a home as a stranger when I needed help, so I know the difference it can make. I’ve got a spare room & I couldn’t justify having a house to myself. The young people are so polite, I think because I'm so old they see me as a Granny type!
I want to thank all the staff at SASH including the people that donate. Thank you, because you are changing my world and every young people’s world that struggles with youth homelessness. Everybody deserves a chance, and you have given us all a chance, so thank you.
Our young people are typically made homeless from a family breakdown, leaving care or abuse. Before coming to SASH many are facing precarious living arrangements, such as sofa-surfing where they can become subject to negative influences from peers with an increased risk of exploitation & the potential to disengage from society. Being made homeless at a young age, often means they lack life skills & resources to live successfully independently & urgently need a safe home & personalised support.
Initially, SASH will meet the most immediate need for a young person - a home. By matching young people with a volunteer host, with whom they can live, either for the short or longer term we will provide the time, space & support to begin rebuilding their lives. We also deliver a range of development opportunities such as skill based workshops & festive cultural trips designed to build confidence, gain knowledge & independence enabling them to work towards a sustainable future.
