A donation of £100,000 would enable ShelterBox to create a new village for 2,000 displaced people in Africa. This money would pay for just over 200 ShelterBoxes. Each box would contain a rugged 10-person, high-spec tent designed for African conditions, plus a cooking stove and utensils, blankets, tools, water containers etc - the basic tools of survival for a family of 10.

    Situation

One of ShelterBox's long-term aims is to assist a million people in Africa who have lost their homes - whether because of war, drought, flood or any other kind of disaster. To date, the charity has worked in nine African countries with partners ranging from local Rotary clubs and church organisations to the Red Cross and UNICEF. We have provided aid for victims of earthquake, flood and AIDS, as well as families displaced by war in countries like Somalia and Sudan. Many of these innocent victims of disaster just need a chance to re-establish their lives. A donation of £100,000 would enable us to deliver 200 ShelterBoxes to wherever they are most needed within Africa and establish a village that will offer not just a new home but also new hope and dignity to around 2,000 displaced people. With every Africa Village 2000 that we create, ShelterBox moves a little closer to its aim of helping 1,000,000 people.
