1 in 5 children in Malawi will die before their fifth birthday; denied access to medical care by the very real problems of poverty; they suffer and die, virtually always from illnesses such as malaria that are treatable - if the diagnostic skills and medicine are available. Our response was to set up Children's Mobile Clinics and we now take the medical skills and medicine to the villages where they are most needed and save thousands of young lives every year.

Situation

The Children's Mobile Clinic treats over 30,000 sick children every year, including over 8,000 cases of malaria - which is still Africa's biggest killer. The Mobile Clinic uses a robust 4 x 4 Land Rover with a team of Clinical Officers and nurses and carries diagnostic tools and an extensive stocks of medicine. On our busiest day so far this year we treated 579 children, saving many young lives. Our Mobile Children's Clinic is supported by a Mobile Surgical Unit, an ex-British army 10 ton truck converted into an operating theatre on wheels - enabling us to perform minor operations deep in the African bush. We need to raise £133,150 this year to run this vital programme, can you help? £10 will buy the medicine (ACT) to treat 8 children suffering from malaria. £50 will provide medicine to treat 150 sick children, a typical day at the Mobile Clinic. £250 will enable us to perform 10 surgical procedures. £4,687 will pay the annual salary of one of our nurses. PLEASE HELP TODAY - WHATEVER YOU GIVE WILL BE MATCHED BY ONE OF OUR SUPPORTERS UP TO A TOTAL OF £25,000.
