The Grassroots Endowment for Cheshire

The Grassroots Endowment Challenge for Cheshire is an exciting opportunity to double the impact of charitable giving that strengthens your local community. Between 2008 and 2011, because of a special government incentive, every £1 that you give will be matched by a special government incentive so that it is worth £1.92 . If you are a higher rate tax payer you may claim tax relief so the gift only costs you 75p – more than doubling your impact.

The Opportunity Voluntary and community groups are the backbone of our local communities. They care for people, they improve our environment, they enrich our lives and they often make big differences for all of us in quiet, unassuming ways. Now, we have a great opportunity for Cheshire to create a special, exclusive fund for these groups and their community-led activities, because for every £1 raised, the Government will add £1*. Cheshire’s Legacy The Endowment will never run out of money, because the grants will only be taken from interest gained through careful investment of donated funds. In consequence, the Endowment will be truly sustainable and a lasting legacy for the people of Cheshire. Cheshire’s Challenge The ultimate goal is to create the Grassroots Endowment for Cheshire and raise £676,000 by the end of March 2011. The Government will then top this pot up to £1.35 million, if we reach our interim targets. However, our first challenge is to raise £135,200 by 31st March 2009. Your Support We are looking for individuals and businesses who are willing to support the development of this new charitable fund in a range of possible ways: • Introduce us to people and organisations who may like to invest in this fund. • Pass information on to people and organisations you know well. • Let us distribute information through your networks. • Host a fundraising event. • Offer your time and/or services to help develop the fund. Donations Not surprisingly, we are also looking for contributions in a range of ways: • Provide an experience, service or product that we could offer at a charity auction. • Encourage your customers and colleagues to give to the fund. • Give the Endowment money as Gift Aid, so that we can recover the tax. • Set up a regular donation to the Endowment on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis. Delivering Grants Once the legacy is created, we will be consulting donors to see how the grants could be spent. It may be • Activities that enable interaction between people from different ages and backgrounds, urban and rural. • Development and maintenance of multi-purpose community buildings. • Projects that encourage healthier behaviour and lifestyles.
