Working closely with local people, who provide the labour, we are funding projects to make this region self supporting. This is multi year program , but for 2008 we will prioritise clean water provision and basic healthcare in the region. Once the basic health needs of the region are addressed we will then move to the next phases of education and agricultural support. The aims of the project for 2008 are to increase access to clean water and basic healthcare which cures many diseases and prevents many child deaths. Once the healthcare is addressed we will then improve the educational facilities in the region so that the children can receive schooling to allow access to jobs in the local government, and as nurses and teachers which relieves the pressure on the land by allowing the population to earn a living away from the land. We will then also work with local farmers to help wirh irrigation and fertility of the land to improve yields. Once these are all in place the communities will be able to support themselves through a mixture agriculure and cash income. We only work on one small area at a time and we will stay with this area until the goals are achieved and the local community can support itself sustainably. We aim to raise around £100k to support the infrastructure projects for 2008, but will need support for future years also. Any donor can choose to support the program as a whole, either just for this year or for several years, or support a particular village in the region by supporting that village through the water/healthcare/education/agriculture program over a number of years.
