To fund water projects in the Debark region of North-west Ethiopia, in the Simien Mountains region. Each new water point costs approx $5000 and provides the whole community with safe drinking water. The more money we raise the more water points we can build.

    Situation

This area in the Simien Mountains is very remote and we are currently the only organisation increasing access to clean water for these communities. We have added water points in 23 communities in 2 years and have raised the proportion of the population who can access clean water from the shockingly low figure of 10% of the population to 18%,(18,000 people) . Unfortunately, 82% of the population of the region still share their water with animals. Each $5000 raised can provide another community with clean water. Each water point sponsored by an individual or organisation will have a plaque attached naming the donor providing proof that all your funds are used to the benefit of the villagers - all the UK staff of our charity work on a voluntary basis. The water points are built by the local population. Local families pay a very small monthly charge to use the water point, which then creates a maintenance fund. So precious is the gift of water that it is typical of the communities to lock the water point away to ensure the construction is not damaged. It can then be opened in the mornings and evenings by the designated water point guardian. Safe drinking water is a basic human right - help end Water Poverty
