The Grassroots Endowment Challenge for the Isle of Wight is an exciting opportunity to double the impact of charitable giving that strengthens your local community. Between 2008 and 2011, because of a special government incentive, every £1 that you give will be matched by a special government incentive so that it is worth £2.56. If you are a higher rate tax payer you may claim tax relief so the gift only costs you 75p - more than trebling your impact.

    Situation

We are firmly rooted in the local community and experts in supporting local community and charity groups. We ensure that the grants that are made are relevant to local needs, with all kinds of additional benefits to tackle the issues that really make a difference to local deprivation. Community groups are at the heart of building stronger communities. The kinds of groups that could benefit from Grassroots include: mother and toddler groups; after school groups; youth clubs; self help groups for people with mental and physical health issues; projects working with the learning or physically disabled; social and cultural groups; community sports groups; activity groups for older people; support groups for people from ethnic and other minorities; groups run by local people who want to tackle local issues. The list is endless but the common theme is that most of these groups are led by volunteers and live a hand to mouth existence. An Isle of Wight brass band is celebrating a £5,000 grant for new uniforms. The 27 musicians of Cowes Concert band will be kitted out in traditional-style jackets thanks to their award which marks another milestone in their resurgene over the last few years. Hopefully the new look will result in more concert booking sand heighten the entertainment of the audiences, as well as provide the band with a feel-good factor. Any donations that are made, together with the match funding, are invested in special endowment funds and invested effectively for the long term benefit of people in need across the Isle of Wight. Every year your gift will be part of a fund that contributes to helping local people and, in that sense, it is a gift that keeps on giving. Gifts of any size may be made, but if you give over £10,000 you can also be involved in specifying the kinds of issues and geographical areas where your gift may be used.
