    Situation

A fortnight ago, people in Haiti lost everything during a catastrophic earthquake. At least 150,000 people are dead and 250,000 are believed to be injured. We must help quickly after such a massive disaster. Handicap International has been working in Haiti since 2008. Less than 24 hours after the earthquake, we had already dispatched an emergency team to specifically support local hospitals, and sent out one tonne of equipment such as wheelchairs, walking aids, crutches. Currently our team of 150 people is: - delivering humanitarian aid using our off-road trucks to deliver water, medicine and food. This is done in partnership with the World Food Program and under UN coordination. - providing emergency care to the wounded. Our six medical teams are providing first aid treatment and stabilising patients while they wait to get to hospitals. - providing post-operative care and rehabilitation. Our team estimates the number of amputees to be over 1,000. - distributing emergency kits (sheets and rope for temporary shelters, along with blankets, water filters, buckets and cooking utensils) Our years of experience mean we know that time is critical. The speed of our response and our expertise will help prevent injuries from becoming lifelong disabilities. Your gift, whatever the amount, represents concrete help, hope and support to the victims. Every donation will make a difference to the people of Haiti. Please, if you can, donate today. For the latest update on our work in Haiti, please visit www.handicap-international.org.uk
