Tearfund has just launched its East Africa Crisis Appeal to help people that are being affected by the escalating issues of food security and people displacement in East Africa due to the ongoing drought that the region has been experiencing.

Situation
Over 10 million people are now facing severe food and water shortages after a life-threatening drought worsened in Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia. This is a situation that has been building for the last nine months there has been no rain in recent months so it is getting worse, in others the rains have come late. This is because of a toxic mix of soaring food prices and climate change
Solution
Tearfund has local partners responding in the region. For more than 20 years we have been helping strengthen the resilience of communities and the local church. We will be working with our partners across Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia to respond both to the immediate needs of this emergency and long term preparedness to future drought through our disaster risk reduction relief programmes.
