As drought prevails and crops fail across much of Somalia, an estimated 2.5 million people need emergency humanitarian aid. In times of terrible crisis like this, children are always the most vulnerable. You can give life-saving care, to one malnourished child for just £20.

    Situation

An estimated 240,000 children under 5 years are acutely malnourished in Somalia, of whom 60,000 are at an increased risk of death if they do not receive appropriate specialist care. Conflict, sharply increased food prices, and a deepening drought, the worst in 60 years, have given rise to an internally-displaced population of up to 1.5 million. Those who've fled the violence seeking security now find themselves in overstretched camps where living conditions are squalid and food inadequate.

    Solution

Within 14 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in and around Burao, our team is providing life-saving nutrition, water and healthcare to around 100,000 people. The most vulnerable of all are malnourished children between the ages of 6 and 59 months, to whom we are providing nutrition. We're also supporting the health system, providing health and hygiene education, and implementing key water and sanitation activities to address the underlying causes of malnutrition.
