To give at least 120 disadvantaged young people the opportunities to discover their potential in the performing arts, such as, dance, drama, music and song. All members will be able to access cost-free, weekly professional classes in their chosen art. They will then be encouraged to produce their very own grand performance which will showcase their newly acquired skills.

    Situation

Activiteens created project Discover Your Potential to meet the personal, social and emotional needs of disadvantaged young people, by providing them with opportunities to acquire new skills. These young people are unable to access mainstream provision due to their poverty, cultural and religious requirements. By participating in this project their self esteem, organisational capacities and teams skills will be enhanced in an environment that meets each of their specific needs. This will in turn improve their future employment possibilities and contribution to their communities. The project will begin in January with taster sessions being offered, giving beneficiaries the choice of training they would like. They will then benefit from weekly training in their chosen art by qualified trainers. In June 09, youth workers will assist beneficiaries in organising and rehearsing for a grand-scale performance which will take place in December 2010. This will provide beneficiaries with life skills such as organisational, leadership and budgeting skills as well as provide the local community with access to a low cost evening of entertainment. The total cost for this project is approximately £49,300. This includes: - £9000 for salaries of professional trainers and youth workers - £12,000 for equipment and facility costs - £4000 rent and refurbishment - £22,000 for the performance costs, which includes, hall hire, scenery and props rental, sound system hire and transportation costs - £2300 for administrative costs
