    Situation

The Buskaid Music School in Soweto teaches around eighty young people aged between 4 and 25. The purpose-built Music School is open after school, at weekends and during school holidays. Children come to Buskaid as complete beginners and can progress to very advanced levels. The flagship Buskaid Soweto String Ensemble has toured worldwide including the 2007 BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and recorded five acclaimed CDs, as well as featuring on a documentary DVD 'Soweto Strings'. Many senior students undertake teacher training to enable them to assist their younger colleagues. It costs almost £1800 per student, per year, to teach a student at the Buskaid Music School. The Buskaid UK charitable trust is committed to raising at least £25,000 in order to cover the fees of fifteen students each year.
