The Giggleswick Annual Fund 2009/10 will raise money to fund several small projects around the School. Some of these projects will help expand existing activities, others support new development. Both will offer new opportunities to our pupils and the wider community in the Yorkshire Dales. It may be that you want to specify a particular area of interest, or be happy for your gift to be used where the need is greatest. Which ever area of the School’s activities you want to help, your gift will be used wisely and to great effect. We ahve already raised over £85K towards these projects this year. Please help us reach our target!

Arts Technical Equipment for the New Theatre The first phase of the Richard Whiteley Theatre will open later this year. However, we still need lighting and sound equipment to use the Theatre for school and community performance. A gift to the Annual Fund will help kit out the theatre. Musical Instruments The Giggleswick School Orchestra and its constituent bands are crucial to the performing arts at both the School and in the local area, where they form the core of the local orchestra. To encourage new players we need to be able to invest in new musical instruments. Whether a violin or a tuba we need your help to raise £2,000 to support pupils who do not have the means to buy their own instruments. A gift to the Annual Fund will make this happen. Sport Tennis Giggleswick is unique in the area for having indoor, outdoor and grass tennis courts. The courts are much used by pupils and the local community. However, the grass courts are constantly threatened by wildlife, which destroy both the surface of the courts and the netting. We want to use £3,000 raised through the Annual Fund to build sturdy fencing around the grass courts and repair the damage done to the grass and the nets. Learning Expand young minds by supporting the Giggleswick Gifted & Talented Programme Giggleswick has always prided itself on the diversity of the education it offers all its pupils. For many of our most talented young people we want to be able to offer a range of challenging education experiences not normally found in a School environment. This may be the opportunity to perform experiments in University Science labs, visit challenging exhibitions or take part in further academic study; we need your help to raise £5,000 to provide such opportunities in the coming year. Junior School Early Years’ Play Outdoor play equipment forms a key part of early years’ development. As part this year’s Annual Fund we would like to raise £5,000 to develop and expand the School’s outdoor play area for its youngest pupils. New seating in Catteral Pavilion The continuing success of the Junior School’s performing arts programme means that we have outgrown the existing seating arrangements in the pavilion. We would like to use £5,000 of the money raised to fund new seating. Bursaries For over five centuries Giggleswick School has been committed to educating children from a diverse range of backgrounds. Many of these pupils have benefited from scholarships and bursaries provided thanks to the generosity of others. Raising funds for bursaries is the final, but most important part of the 2009/10 Annual Fund. We hope to raise at least £5,000 of bursarial support this year. OG Club Projects The OG Club have identified several projects they wish to conduct around the School to celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the School in 2012. They have pledged £10,000 to match all the funds raised in this area.
