Children end up living on the streets for many reasons: abuse, HIV orphans, poverty etc, and in the case of Kenya the number of street children has increased since the post-election violence that led to thousands of deaths of innocent people. We would like to provide a meal each day to street children living in the slum areas of Eldoret (where we have a permanent base). The children will be identified by our staff through their outreach work, and also referred by local churches and Kenyan authorities. To set the project up will require purchase of a cooking stove, plus suitable pots and pans. Also plates / bowls for serving the meal, and plastic beakers for serving a drink. Initial set-up costs: Bowls and mugs: £2,000 Cooking items: £3,000 Stove: £1,000 Initial staff costs: salary (annual) and training: £2,000 Sub Total: £8,000 Administration costs (10% of total): £800 Total: £8,800 NB Food will be donated by local catering and retail suppliers, and by private donations.
