Dorchester Opportunity Preschool Group Ltd

Ccampaign_5832_App_183

The Dorchester Opportunity Group offers activities, care and support for Pre-school children with special needs, their families and carers. Our big Idea is for the Opportunity Group to work with Dorset Sure Start and build a Children’s Centre in Dorchester, which will serve the county town and surrounding towns and villages throughout West Dorset. The new centre will have a specialist area for the Opportunity group and the improved facilities will allow the group to offer additional support to families including a ‘Drop in centre’ and overnight respite care. We will need to raise £200,000 for furnishings and special equipment for this and it is this aspect of the project for which we are requesting support from the Big Give.

Situation

The Dorchester Opportunity Group Currently offers pre-school activities in a safe, caring stimulating environment for children of all abilities with particular emphasis on providing services for children with disabilities and additional needs. Its team also offers support for families and carers and works closely with professionals from health, education and social Services. The group currently operates from the Prince of Wales Pre-school Centre, but because the pre-school must expand its service to accommodate increased demand, the Opportunity Group will need to find new space. At the same time Dorset Sure Start is looking to provide a Children’s Centre in Dorchester so it seems right for both organisations to work together and achieve a centre of excellence for pre-school children of all abilities and their families. The building will be situated on land adjacent to the Prince of Wales Pre-school and will cost 1.5 million pounds to build. The Opportunity group must find £800,000 towards the building and a further £200,000 for furnishings and special equipment. Our members and supporters are working very hard to raise the £200,000 needed and have already raised £15,000 over the last three months. Please help us to raise £50,000 by Christmas so that we can match fund our total. Thank you very much.
