Rwanda went through a horrendous genocide just fifteen years ago when very nearly a million people were brutally killed. The Government and people have made a brave and determined effort to recover from this and to build a better future, but they are still very much in need of support. Rwanda Aid believes that one of the best ways of helping is to invest in the education of the young.

    Situation

The Rwandan Government aims to provide nine years of free primary schooling for all children by the year 2020. However it is struggling to find the funds to build and equip the schools and train the necessary teachers. Rwanda Aid works to build capacity in the remote South west corner of Rwanda. In this endeavour it aims to build a further primary school in the Rusizi district, to twin it with a UK school and support it with books, equipment and training. The school will be built in three stages, and provide nine classrooms, sports field, water tanks and administrative facilities. The total budget is £80 000.
