    Situation

Sport provision for children & young people with disabilities in the area is severely limited, yet there is much demand for such facilities. Not only are these areas key for therapists to develop specialist skills with the children, but also many families are denied the opportunity to spend the time together engaging in leisure pursuits with all their children at the same time. This ambitious project will provide quality, state-of-the-art sports & leisure opportunities, designed where possible by and for children with a wide range of disabilities and their families. The centre already has full wheelchair access & suitable changing facilities for a wide range of disabilities. 1,200 children will use the centre on a regular basis during the day, and additionally more then 10,000 children, young people, parents, therapists, spectators, disability sports professionals will use the facilities over the next 5 years Sir Roger Jones OBE, Chairman of Sparkle Appeal Fundraising: “The sports and leisure opportunities that the centre will offer will be a giant leap forward. The centre with its outdoor sports ground, hydrotherapy, children’s playground, gym, cycle track and suitable changing facilities, will become a focal point for our families, being able, many for the first time, to spend time with all their children together. This will truly help to strengthen the family unit for all families in Gwent.” Each of the 6 main component parts of our “Sport for All” project costs on average £50,000. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss your involvement and future engagement with our worthwhile, far-reaching and legacy-leaving project, ensuring that children with disabilities in South Wales have equal access to sport & leisure facilities on their door-step.
