Believing education to be the single most powerful tool available for reducing poverty in developing countries, we work with well established local partners, principally schools, to improve the quality of general and skills education for young people.

    Situation

The project is trying to decrease poverty working at its roots basis. In western Kenya schools are few and far between, which makes it particularly hard for girls to access a secondary education. The risks associated with walking long distances through isolated areas, combined with the prioritization of education for boys, means that few girls in the village attend secondary school.

    Solution

We established a Self-Sufficient School project for 90 girls in Ondati village, which will: i) Provide an opportunity for girls to access a high quality & relevant education. ii) Provide an opportunity for girls to develop entrepreneuial & technical skills in rural business. iii) Provide the school with a much needed sustainable source of income so that it can become 100% financially self-sufficient and continue operating on an indefinite basis with no furher funding support.
