Blaby District has a higher than average number of older people and the befriending service has increased by over 400% since 2008. We wish to ensure the continuation and expansion of the service to meet the growing needs of an aging population to enable them to remain independent. The service needs to recruit new volunteers to support a growing waiting list and provide these volunteers with training and support for the benefit of the people they visit.
Through the services of the Befriending Organiser, the service will recruit, train and support volunteers enabling them to regularly visit isolated, physically frail older people. This is personal relationship providing individualised support, social contact, companionship, and valuable information. With additional volunteer befrienders the waiting list will be reduced and more elderly residents benefit from the highly valued and award winning service.
