The growing number of minority elders in Harrow with their incumbent illnesses and disabilities require resources sensitive to transcultural needs. Some wards of Harrow rate equal to the lowest 20% of deprived areas in England.Harrow rates 9th in the table of deprivation of 32 London Boroughs. There is a correlation between the deprived wards and high minority community populations.
The Minority Ethnic Elders Project will recruit and train dual language speaking volunteers to work in community venues, giving information and support to the minority elders. Outreach sessions will be set up in GPsurgeries as well as community venues. This project will help house bound elders as well, by offering homevisits as and when required.
