The RISE Foundation's 'We Are Together Campaign' supports the education of over 50 orphans and disadvantaged children in South Africa. We believe that a good quality education is vital in breaking the cycle of poverty and so we offer bursaries for children to achieve an education that will allow them to realize their talents and develop their individual personalities to the fullest.

    Situation

The RISE Foundation's current campaign is built around the award winning film WE ARE TOGETHER (Thina Simunye), which tells the remarkable story of children from the Agape orphanage in South Africa. Most of the children at the orphanage have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS. They overcome their hardship and loss through music and singing. The Education Trust Fund is a permanent endowment, which will ensure the education costs of 50 children in perpetuity. The education programme costs amount to approximately £15,000 annually and we hope to accrue a total of £300,000 in the endowment fund. It is estimated that twenty percent of children in South Africa are expected to lose a parent by 2010. When children lose their parents, they also lose the people who would traditionally invest in their future, by paying their school fees and encouraging them to study and gain an education. The RISE Foundation hopes that by funding the education of disadvantaged children, we are helping to break the cycle of poverty and enabling children to take their future into their own hands. Since the education programme began the children have all shown increased levels of confidence, English fluency and their marks have greatly improved. We have transferred all of the children to even better schools at which they will receive increased support and facilities and can develop their talents to the fullest.
