A shocking 75 million girls around the world are not in school. This denies them the opportunity to realise their rights and aspirations, as well as support their family, community and country to life themselves out of poverty. This isn’t fair. Ignoring it isn’t smart. Educated girls are healthier, earn more, are less likely to marry and have children early and more likely to reinvest their income and skills. An extra year of school for girls will increase their lifetime income by 10-20%.

Because I am a Girl is redressing the balance by tackling the barriers that prevent girls from accessing a quality education through: • Undertaking research, providing evidence to support girls’ education • Supporting people to use their voice to put pressure on decision makers, getting them to take action and deliver education for girls • Delivering projects that directly support girls across the world to realise their rights and access a quality education.
