Getting businesses to sign up to practical actions to reduce litter and business waste and increase recycling. Practical actions include sweeping the pavement outside their business premises every day.

Situation
This project gets local business involved in improving the environment. This includes practical actions that improve the local environment as well as actions to impact on climate change including increasing business recycling. Once businesses sign up to the Business Charter they have on the spot monitoring visits at least every 3 months to check that they are carrying out the actions they agreed to. If they have done these over 6 months they get a Gree Steps certificate. Monitoring visits continue on a three monthly basis. In return we have negotiated fast track access to City Council cleansing services for businesses who sign up including one free removal of graffiti.
