Umoja provides vulnerable and disadvantaged youth with a brighter future. We select 40 of the most at risk, but highly motivated, young adults from the urban slums of Arusha and provide education, personal development and life skills training which enables them to find meaningful employment.

Umoja has contributed to education and skills training for youths preparing them to enter the workforce. Yet poverty and poor education quality still presents the largest challenges for disenfranchised youth in Tanzania with less than 20% of school aged children going onto secondary school level. As a result unemployment stands at 40%, which in turn contributes to low awareness of rights and destructive behaviours such as crime and risky sexual behaviour.
Umoja has run a free holistic education and support programme for disadvantaged young people who have no other options. Our programme is divided into a four pronged curriculum including academics, sexual reproductive health, Life Skills and employability skills training. We want to interject new and exciting activities into these programmes to improve the quality of education that is being provided at the centre.
