    Situation

Why is this project needed? Our aim is to address homelessness at an early stage. There are many contributing factors to homelessness. One of the main reasons is alcohol and substance misuse. There is also a high correlation between this and offending behaviour. Many young people in Darlington misuse substances and alcohol. This often leads to anti social behaviour and can result in tenancies being at risk. Although data is scarce it is recognised that there is a need in Darlington for these young people to have access to support, to assist them deal with substance misuse problems and reduce the risk of tenancy breakdown. The goals of the project will be to support young people in their accommodation or to find them more suitable accommodation and support them there. To equip them with the skills they require for successful independent living. To build a collaborative relationship with other professionals working with the same client group. To ensure that not only alcohol and substance misuse issues are dealt with but also to deal with issues that caused misuse of substances are dealt with, allowing the young person to move on with their lives and positively contribute to their community. As with any other 700 Club service, all Service Users will have access to our 24 hour emergency on call service and access to all other services offered by the 700 Club, including the Daily Living Skills Programme, Volunteer Mentors, Emergency Accommodation, Smoking Cessation and C-Card. Work will be conducted ethically and within professional boundaries.
