    Situation

In the Chaco region of Bolivia - where the majority of rural people work in the informal economy and rely on agriculture as their main source of income - rural poverty is still widespread. Only 28% of rural children attend secondary school and 40% of these drop out due to high fees and the prevailing attititude that the standard government curriculum is not relevant to the realities of rural life. With only a basic level of education, the rural community lack the technical and entrepreneurial skills to establish successful enterprises and raise themselves and their families out of poverty. This project aims to address these issues by: - Transforming and expanding the 'Centro de Educativa Agricola' into a ‘Self Sufficient School’ by supporting the establishment of income generating activities and an entrepreneurial education programme at the school. - Using these activities as a platform for teaching environmentally sustainable land management and business skills to the students. - Reinvesting profits from these activities into the school so that it becomes financially self-sufficient by 2013. Over its first 25 years of operation the school will provide a low or no cost education to 2,500 students and indirectly benefit 15,000 community members. Investment Plan - £ 90,000 over the course of 3 years, starting in 2008. This investment will allow the school to generate £49,500 per year by 2013 which will cover school running costs indefinitely.
