Created as a response to the 2012 Olympic Games, Spike created ‘The Games’ in 2010. An Edinburgh run will be used as a showcase for national and international promoters and press to view Spike’s work in advance of a national tour throughout 2012. This will enable Spike to extend its touring reach.

Situation

Spike is not getting the best value for investment in its touring work. The company is able to run a full-scale national tour after each new show is created but in order to maximise the return on investment needed to create each show the show has to be able to tour further afield and to new venues in the UK to increase earned income and to ensure as many people as possible see and benefit from the work.

Solution

By showcasing The Games at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2011 promoters from the UK and across the world will be able to see the work with a view to booking it as part of future tours. In addition, the press and media will be able to see and review the show and these reviews will also act as a lever to touring to more venues and attracting bigger audiences. At the festival itself the work will be seen by upwards of 2000 people, further increasing Spike's profile.
