Situation
Deptford X is a visual arts organisation, established in 1998 and located in one of the UK ’officially deprived’ areas Our work helps to tackle some of the main social and economic issues in the area. Our research from 2010 shows: • 59% of businesses questioned so an increase in profits during Deptford X (no one saw a decrease) • 93% of those questioned said that Deptford X had a positive impact on the area • 89% of respondents felt that art can have a positive affect on the locality
Solution
We are seeking to run a community and education programme with professional artists working with the local community and schools to create new work that will be exhibited during Deptford X 2012. We aim to work with 100 people from the local community to create new work. Through our programme we aim to show the benefit the arts has on mental well being, whilst also helping to unlock the creative potential of the participants and giving them a chance to see their work exhibited at Deptford X.
