People with learning disabilities want the opportunity to work, earn money, learn new skills and to be part of the community. The project will provide a drop-in centre and community cafe' with a fully equiped training kichen and catering facilities, providing training for young people with learning disabilties in a safe and supportive environment.

    Situation

    The project aims to help people with learning and other disabilities learn and develop the important skills needed to live an independent life in a very hands on practical way . The project will support people learning disabilities especially those young people with Autistic spectrum disorder in acquiring a portfolio of life skills including catering. The project needs £100,000 in funding to refurbish and develop a new specialised training kitchen and catering facility to carry-out training in catering skills. The project aims to work with young people with learning disabilities from within the community offering training, a drop-in centre and community cafe for the benefit of disadvantaged groups including the elderly. The project will work with special schools, community groups, social services, businesses and other charities to offer the best possible help and support and provide the best possible training in life and work skills, building confidence and self-esteem. Helping people with learning disabilities to become independent in the difficult transition into an adult life.
