    Situation

In Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, thousands of children wander the streets stealing, raking about in rubbish and living in drains. Working with partners, The Living Church, we have developed a project which is transforming the lives of dozens of these kids. The goal is to help the kids progress from the street life to project support where they are cared for by a team from the church, given support to go back to school, and integrated if possible into a home. At present a vocational training centre is being set up (the bakery is now finished) to help those on the project develop skills for work and independent living. The project costs £4000 a quarter to support the 72 kids and we are looking for support to meet this target and assure the kids of continued support. Many of them are unrecognisable due to the huge change in character, temperament and lifestyle but they are still fragile and need ongoing support until ready to live independently. There are three areas of support you can help with. The first is to sponsor a child on the project. This costs £15 a month, secures there place on the project and releases funds to bring new children onto the project. Secondly you can donate to the ongoing costs of the project on a regular basis which is a tremendous help in meeting the monthly needs of the children. Thirdly you can donate towards the cost of the Vocational Training Centre which will provide training and job opportunities to ex-street children.
