    Situation

The south nave clerestory has suffered from extensive deterioration over many years with former repairs taking the form of patching problems rather than solving them. In places some of the window tracery, which holds fine stained glass, has been simply in-filled with cement. The project will also repair and replace water down-pipes, guttering and other rain-water goods as appropriate. The glass, where necessary, will also be repaired and cleaned. The seven year project will be carried out by the Herefordshire based form of stonemasons Capps & Capps Ltd. As part of the project a pro-active training programme is run by Capps to train apprentice stone masons. It is hoped that each phase of the restoration will be supported by English Heritage however the Perpetual Trust will have to raise the balancing funds, which most years will total up to £100,000.
