    Situation

The restoration of the Cathedral Close, including the re-lighting of the cathedral, repair of the cathedral barn (the second oldest secular building in Hereford) and the up-grading of the masons’ yard, is seen as a major project in the regeneration of the city and region. The project will look at a wide range of issues ranging from paths and drainage, through to defining the entrance to and boundaries of the space. The project will include new paths, seating and other street furniture, architectural and pathway lighting, interpretation, traffic management and much more. A stage one approval for the project has been received from the Heritage Lottery Fund with a £4.2 million grant available subject to sufficient matched funding being secured. The project will redefine the Cathedral Close and Cathedral for generations to come.
