    Situation

Dickens' A Christmas Carol not only highlights the blight of poverty and inequality, but also encourages us to support those who are in greater need than ourselves. Although life in Britain has improved dramatically since then, there are still thousands of people in desperate need every winter. In North Yorkshire alone over 90,000 households are fuel poor. These homes are more likely to experience cold, damp, illness, isolation, depression and even death. But this hardship is preventable.

    Solution

This Christmas, Two Ridings Community Foundation and Dickens' Gift to Yorkshire are reinvigorating the memory of Dickens in Yorkshire and his valuable moral lessons. All funds raised will both celebrate his connection to North Yorkshire and honour his Christmas message by supporting those in greatest need during the icy winter months. Together we will follow in his philanthropic footsteps by helping those in need and by enriching education and the arts.
