The Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust

Support a bursary student, change the face of Architecture...

The Trust provides bursaries for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to access higher education and undertake study in Architecture; the financial burden of study is one of the main barriers that prevent access to careers in urban design. “Without the Trust I would not have been able to study architecture” Osita Nwachukwu, BA Student at University of Canterbury and Stephen Lawrence Bursary recipient.

Situation

80% of students applying to study architecture are from BME backgrounds; only 2% of qualifying architects are from a black, minority or ethnic background. The Stephen Lawrence Trust Bursary scheme is changing those statistics and increasing diversity in Architecture. The scheme currently funds: • 70 Bursary students currently in full time Higher Education • Awarded in the UK and internationally • Special Olympic legacy Bursary programme across the five boroughs The scheme is: • Diversifying urban design • Creating a new generation of urban innovators • Dismantling glass ceilings • Challenging the industry • Increasing the competitiveness of UK Architecture • Building new skills for the global economy By contributing the to the Bursary scheme you will be helping young people to study, qualify and enter the workforce as architects, fulfilling a dream they would otherwise have not been able to achieve.
