A strong Christian influence in military forces, (that are often found in coalition deployments in the most violent regions of the world), permeates morality in the most adverse circumstances, brings confidence for Christians to become more effective “ salt and light” and comfort to comrades in time of loss.

    Situation

Christians in the Armed Forces of Europe serve in an increasingly secular environment. Often in operational danger and over-stretched, they need spiritual support that their home nations are not always equipped to provide. Military Christian Fellowships, supporting chaplaincies where they exist, meet the needs of Christians in the armed forces through prayer support, meeting together, studying scripture together and considering its application in the military profession Then, in cooperation with other MCFs, they offer a foundation for partnership in the Gospel and the promotion of Christian ethics across international and denominational boundaries within the military profession. Over the past five years a number of international activities ranging from contemplative retreats to adventurous training have paved the way for the 2009 event. It is seen as a watershed opportunity to initiate the formation of new European MCFs, to bring on the next generation of leaders for existing MCFs and to explore avenues of further spiritual renewal and international cooperation.
