    Situation

    Snape Maltings Concert Hall and various venues, Aldeburgh, Suffolk, UK This world-renowned Festival, founded 62 years ago by Benjamin Britten, remains today as prestigious, vibrant and exciting as ever under its new Artistic Director Pierre-Laurent Aimard. He has an international reputation not only as a great performer but also as a programmer of real invention. The programme offers a wonderful mix of new music and famous artists, with a number of unifying themes. Events range from song recitals, orchestral and chamber music concerts to fully staged operas, free events on the beach and visual arts exhibitions. Most of the concerts are programmed exclusively for the Festival and cannot be heard anywhere else. This will also be the first opportunity to hold Festival events in the new Britten Studio. 62nd Aldeburgh Festival highlights include: World premiere performances of Sir Harrison Birtwistle’s new chamber opera double bill (an Aldeburgh Festival commission) (12-18 June) New Festival Artistic Director Pierre-Laurent Aimard in recital (13 June), giving UK premiere of George Benjamin’s Duet with BBC Symphony Orchestra and the composer (19 June) World premiere of Elliott Carter’s On Conversing with Paradise (Oliver Knussen and Birmingham Contemporary Music Group – 20 June)) London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Jurowski (15 June) Thomas Adès, Steven Isserlis and Anthony Marwood in recital including world premiere of Adès’ Lieux Retrouvés (21 June) Masaaki Suzuki conducts Bach St Matthew Passion (28 June) Georgian vocal consort Basiani in a unique presentation of Georgian sacred and traditional music The complete Britten Song Cycles for voice and piano given by Malcolm Martineau and Alumni of the Britten-Pears Programme (14, 23, 27 June) Late night EXAUDI concert (17 June) Recitals by Tabea Zimmerman (16 June), Christiane Oelze (16 June), Nicholas Daniel, Arcanto Quartet (14 June) Plus Exhibitions, Films, Lectures, Walks… If you would like to support this world-class contemporary Festival please make a donation, to ensure that it continues to be as forward thinking and exciting as ever.
