The Activities Programme provides informal, specially designed classes out in the community. The aim is to reach those who, for whatever reason, may not be able to travel into town or further a field and provide them with new opportunities for learning and social interaction. The classes can have the added benefits of helping prevent depression, improving physical well being, increasing mobility and helping to combat social isolation. Some of those who have attended have also built up their confidence to such an extent they have gone on to further training and employment. The classes are planned, organized and provided by our own Activities Coordinator who has an OCN Certificate in Training Techniques and extensive experience of support work with the Jigsaw client group. The classes themselves range from card making and paper crafts to games and gentle exercise and are open to anyone. At present the Activities Coordinator is only a part time post limiting the number of classes we can provide. We would like to use the requested funding to invest in additional staff time to widen the variety of activities, increase the frequency of classes and widen the area in which they are available. The amount requested would cover a full time post for 3 years.
