Help RSPB raise funds to purchase two osprey tags this year, enabling us to continue our important work to protect and monitor these stunning birds of prey. Ospreys are listed as an 'amber species', meaning they are in decline. We need to raise funds for this important monitoring and protection work

    Situation

In 1916, ospreys became extinct in Scotland. Thanks to dedicated and ongoing efforts, in 1954 the first pair returned, choosing Loch Garten to return to and setting up home in the heart of the Highlands. Since then the birds have come back each year. RSPB's work in Scotland to protect the vulnerable ospreys from the many dangers they face is ongoing, with each new chick needing careful monitoring and protection.

    Solution

Thousands of us are gripped by the birds' stories every year as we watch tagged birds carry out their epic migrations to Africa. We follow their amazing journeys, thanks to tracking of chicks each year by RSPB. 'Operation Osprey' has generated most of what we know about the ecology of ospreys, and yet still there is much that’s unknown. This year, the team plan to fit another two tags on chicks leaving the nest, helping understand the birds' journeys & safeguarding their future in Scotland.
