Situation

North Tyneside VODA has been providing a comprehensive information, advice & support service to community groups based in North Tyneside for over 15 years with great success. Currently funded by the Northern Rock Foundation, the Funding Adviser post needs a continuation funder from August 2008 onwards. Your contribution will cover the worker’s salary and overheads and enable them to visit and advise groups on an outreach basis, matching them up with suitable funders and making sure their funding applications sell the good work of the group to all potential funders. We want to concentrate on what has made the post so successful to date, which includes: • Providing a bidwriting support service which empowers groups by passing on fundraising knowledge and technique - we teach groups to fish rather than giving them a haddock! • Acting as an interface between the funders and groups who are looking for money by organising funders fairs, briefing sessions and speed-dating surgeries with popular funders - we show groups that funders are approachable human beings and take the whole mystique out of the process • Over 50% of all queries to VODA are for funding advice - we provide that advice but also make sure the foundations of the group are secure so they can go on to access the funding available - we also provide groups with the essential set-up they often aren’t aware they need! • Helping local groups bring in at least £3.27 Million in the last financial year • Liaising with local and national funders to keep them abreast of what is needed by local community groups and raising awareness of the money available to these groups - we’re the vital link between the askers and the givers • Providing a free, 12 page, bimonthly funding bulletin to over 750 groups on our database North Tyneside has 5 wards in the top 10% of the most deprived wards in the country (e.g. the Meadow Well estate in Riverside) and VODA has been striving for the past 15 years to help even up the economic imbalance by helping empower the huge array of voluntary groups in the area to access their fair share of the local and national funding available. You are invited to become a part of this ongoing process - we guarantee we’ll make your money pay dividends!
